If paper prints attack on Dunn, then at least let him respond I find it disturbing that you would print a personal attack by one of our Tyrone City Council members without at least having the courtesy to talk with the person being attacked ["Cannon: Dunn's a liar," Page 14A, Feb. 27]. What has happened to the fair and objective reporting I expect and usually get from your newspaper? I have watched Greg Dunn as a commissioner, and personally know some of his close associates. Aside from Mr. [Ronnie] Cannon's occasional outbursts, I have never heard anyone say anything negative regarding Mr. Dunn's character. One constant in almost all conversations involving Mr. Dunn is the high regard people generally have regarding his ethics, his integrity and his honesty. I may not always agree with his votes, but one thing I know from watching him in action over the years this man is not a liar. He wrote the toughest ethics ordinance in the state and, from what I've heard, he's understandably proud of it. To demean someone who is so obviously trying to do the best he can in a very difficult position is irresponsible and speaks volumes about the person throwing out the vitriolic and mean-spirited statement. Disagreeing with a vote, talking about a disagreement with an action those are fair game. Taking it to a personal level is childish and flat out nasty. Reporting it in such a one-sided manner is also irresponsible. I hope Mr. Dunn will not stoop to the same level by responding. I also hope that your reporter will, in the future, write objectively and responsibly. Truly objective newspapers report both sides of a story and let the public make up their minds. I hope you will give Mr. Dunn the courtesy he, and everyone else in the same position, deserves. We have one newspaper that never seems to talk to both sides on an issue. We don't need you to start following their lead. S.M. Wilson Fayetteville
