Parents, why can't you just chill about college?

Why do parents stress the college issue so much? I understand that they want us as kids to go to college and all, and most of us are more than willing to go, but why can't they just let us decide?

I wish that parents would give us some leeway as students and as teenagers to investigate colleges and make some of our own decisions. In school, teachers are always getting you ready for something else. Like in elementary school, they geared you for middle school, then middle school was preparing you for high school, and now high school is getting you ready for college. Why can't everyone just live for the moment?

Teach me what I need to know now and I'll be ready as I move on. Isn't that what life is all about making decisions? Not everyone makes the right decision all the time, and I'm not asking for parents to stay out of our decisions. I just want to know why people are so intense on getting ready for the future. I wish we could just live our last year at home without so much stress.
