Starr's Mill and Mcintosh's boys and girls swim teams faced off at the Kedron Aquatic Center last Friday. The Panthers came away with the win after the boys defeated McIntosh 169-109 and the girls won 155-123.

The Starr's Mill boys won all their relays and the girls placed first in the 400 yard freestyle relay while placing second and third in all others.

First place finishers for the Starr's Mill boys were Kyle Flora who placed first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:16.50) and in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.05). Kenny Jubb placed first in both the 50 yard freestyle (23.45) and the 100 yard freestyle (51.80). Josh Strickland placed first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.16) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:56.85). Haynes Finney placed first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:06.51).

First place finishers for the Starr's Mill girls were Brittany Stevens in the 50 yard freestyle (26.59) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.50); Laurel Surrat in the 100 yard freestyle (1:05.40) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:19.02) and Krista Ulrich in the 100 yard backstroke (1:19.02).

Starr's Mill coach J.B. Campbell also noted good swimming performances from Samantha Hudson, Libby Hardison, Jessica Lovelace, Ricardo Ramos, Chris Frederick and Wesley Paxton.

McIntosh coach Polly Kichefski was encouraged that the boys 200 Free Relay lowered their time for the State Meet. "There were many good races throughout the meet," she said. "Everyone on the team swam well."

On Saturday the Chiefs traveled to Rockdale County for a tri-meet with Rockdale County High School and Salem High School. The boys team won 222 to Salem's 193 and Rockdale County's 74. The girls team lost 183 to Salem's 272 and Rockdale County's 71. Salem came out on top overall with 465 points to the Chiefs 405 and Rockdale County's 145.

"We were missing three of our top girl swimmers and one of our top boys swimmers," Kichefski said. "Outstanding swims were Mike Bowman in the 50 free and Chika Mixuno in the 100 breast."
