Former Tiger hurler signs with Florida Gators

The University of Florida baseball program and new head coach Pat McMahon announced the signing of Lee Roberson to a National Letter of Intent.

Roberson, a six-foot-one, 180-pound lefthanded hitter, will enter the University of Florida next fall as a junior. He is a graduate of Fayette County High School. Last year he played his freshman season at Tallahassee Community College for head coach Mike McLeod. He hit .350 with 30 RBI and finished 5-3 with two complete games, a 3.30 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched as the Eagles finished 31-17.

"We are extremely excited to have Lee join the Gator baseball family," McMahon said. "Every year, the Florida junior college system produces some of the state's top baseball players and Lee is another in the long line of outstanding Tallahassee Junior College baseball players. Tallahassee coach Mike McLeod has done an outstanding job."

An honorable mention All State, two-time All Region and two-time All-Metro player (junior and senior year) at Fayette County High School, Roberson hit .430 with six home runs and finished 8-1 with 1.90 ERA, 120 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched as a senior. He hit .380, went 7-4 with 2.30 ERA with 111 strikeouts in 91 innings pitched as a junior and finished 9-1 with 1.76 ERA as a sophomore. In addition, he was selected to Team Georgia.

"Lee is an outstanding hitter," Florida assistant coach John Cohen said. "He has a great ability to recognize pitches, has tremendous hand-eye coordination and is a clutch hitter. He also has a chance to pitch some innings for us. The game just comes to him. He is a very good athlete and plays the game with a smooth, even temperment. As a hitter, his barrel is always in the right spot, he's an outstanding defensive first baseman and recovers the ball well."

"Joining the Florida baseball program is a dream come true," Roberson said. "I've always wanted to be on a team of this caliber. I just want to come in and contribute right away."

Roberson is the son of Clyde and Barbara Roberson of Fayetteville, Ga.
