Coin toss unfair to many

When was the last time you made a major decision by the toss of a coin? That seems to be what Jason Byars did when he made the decision that Flat Rock Middle School couldn't be in the playoffs.

Instead of following the decision that was made by the coaches at a spring 2000 meeting that list the tie-breaker as follows (taken directly out of an e-mail sent by Jason Byars):

1. Win-loss record in the region games (last four games).

2. Head to head.

3. Total win-loss record in all six games.

4. Coin toss.

Jason Byars decided to follow the gentlemen's agreement." The rules everyone supposedly agreed to, but just didn't have time to write down.

I have read this trying to make his decision make sense. I just can't. The Flat Rock Middle School Eagles were told on Thursday, Oct. 18, by e-mail that they were Fayette County champs. Then they were told that Jason Byars had changed his mind and decided to go with the coin toss, which was made before the season was complete.

I am very disappointed, not because Flat Rock wasn't in the playoffs, but because so many people sat back and did nothing to stop this farce. (School Board, are you listening?)

Let's see... should I just forget about it? I think I'll flip a coin.
