Good Samaritan helps lost boy find way home

I would like everyone to know about a real life saver living right here among us. On Oct. 29, my son, Nicholas Pitts, was out riding his bike with a couple of friends. He was told his normal boundaries (which are very close to our home) and that he had to come back in and check in with me at 4:30 p.m. (that gave him an hour to ride his bike).

At 4:45 my husband and I started getting a little worried. Then one of the little boys that he was riding with came to our door at about 4:55 asking for Nicholas. We assumed he was still with them or on his way back to the house. Unfortunately, the two boys misled us about the details of what had transpired, which slowed down the process of finding our son.

The really bad news is that our son is only 10 years old and does not know these golf cart trails. These boys took him riding and got him lost and then left him. We live by Huddleston Pond and they left our son around Huddleston Elementary.

He tried and tried to find his way home and ended up going all the way to Braelinn Baptist Church and then went all the way down Robinson Road to Ga. Highway 54 before he ran into his angel of mercy. He made his way to the Village Pharmacy and it was there he met up with Michael Waters.

Mr. Waters, who was a customer there, could see that Nicholas was very confused and upset and just wanted to get home. When they called our house, we did not answer because my husband and I were out with our teenage daughter looking for him. Mr. Waters then told Nicholas that he would give him a ride home.

How wonderful it is to have great people like that among us in these troubling times that we are all facing now. It seems that most people are afraid to get involved.

I thank God for you, Mr. Waters, because you brought our precious child back to us and you helped him to feel safe until you could return him to us. There is no way that I can totally express my gratitude to you for all your help. Our son said you were so wonderful to him and you did everything you could to make him feel safe. He knew that he was going to be okay after he met you. I just want everyone else to know what a great person you are and how much we appreciate you. You definitely went the extra mile for our child.

I also want to thank the Peachtree City Police Department for all their help. We stopped them on the side of the road and informed them of our predicament and they were on top of things. They worked hard to find Nicholas and they showed up at our house right as Nicholas did. So, I must not forget to let you know how blessed I feel to live in a town knowing my family and I are so safe. Thank you and God bless you all!

In Christ's love,

Cheri, Todd, Krystal and Nicholas Pitts

Peachtree City
