Tickets still available for race weekend

The Winston Cup series returns to Atlanta Motor Speedway this Sunday with the NAPA 500. There will be lots of racing action to entertain fans all weekend though, starting on Friday with practice laps and qualifying.

Gates open on today at 8 a.m. Practice for the ARCA Pork The Other White Meat 400 goes from 10 a.m.-11:15 a.m. and will be followed by NASCAR practice at 11:20 a.m. Georgia pacific Qualifying for the NAPA 500 begins at 3 p.m.

On Friday night, race fans can meet Buckshot Jones from 6-8 p.m. at Sprint PCS in Fayetteville, located at 1415 Ga. Hwy 85 North. The first 50 attendees will receive free earbuds from Jabra and Plantronics. Jones is from Tucker, Ga. and was successful on the Busch series though he has yet to win a Winston Cup race.

Saturday's schedule begins with a breakfast with Jimmy Spencer. The breakfast will take place in the Tara Ballroom at AMS from 7:30-9 a.m. Tickets are $35 and are available through Nancy Eden at Braelinn Baptist Church. Phone 770-487-6691.

Saturday's racing action starts at 11:15 with NASCAR practice until noon. The ARCA 400 will begin at 1 p.m. and will be followed by more NASCAR practice. Racing in the ARCA 400 will be local Legends Racer Doug Stevens. Stevens, a McDonough resident, is a three time Pro Championship winner, who has recent made the jump into ASA racing.

The gates open at 8 a.m. on Sunday and there will be a Racway ministries service at 9:30 a.m. Driver introductions for the NAPA 500 begin at noon and the race is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Country duo Montgomery Gentry will perform the national anthem before the race.

Jeff Gordon can clinch the Winston Cup title by finishing in the top 32 of Sunday's race. Gordon has performed well at AMS in the past, but as everyone knows anybody can win at any given time.

Tickets are still available for the races this weekend. General admission for Friday is $15, while tickets for Saturday are $35 and tiockets for the NAPA 500 range from $30-$105. Phone 770-946-4211 or visit any ticketmaster outlet.
