Young anglers enjoy annual fishing rodeo The Line Creek Nature Center recently held a fishing rodeo. Young anglers from around the area gathered to cast for catfish at the annual event. The pond and the pond's fishing dock are handicapped accessible, making it an ideal event for children who might not ordinarily get a chance to go fishing. Upon arrival, each child grabbed a fishing rod and some worms. Many of the children were challenged by baiting the hook and passed it off to their parents or one of the many Rotarian volunteers on hand. The children employed many different techniques, but the one that landed the biggest catch of the day was casting the line, setting the rod on the bank and going off to play. A lone rod was cast out and carefully placed on the bank. It slid into the pond and disappeared under the water. The young angler called for help and Dennis Chase, Director of the Southern Conservation Trust, came to the rescue with a "snag line." Chase eventually landed the rod and attached to the hook at the end was a huge catfish. Everyone was excited, but none more than the young fisherman who almost lost his rod and reel to the "big one that almsot got away."
