PTC Flash does well at Invitational

The Peachtree City Youth cross country team hosted its Invitational Saturday. Seven teams attended in addition to Peachtree City Flash: Gwinnett Lightning CC Team- Gwinnett County, Walton CC Team - Acworth, Red Runners CC Team - Atlanta, Gazelle's CC Team - Smyrna, Etowah CC Team - Etowah, Track Phi Track CC Team - Lithonia, and Paulding CC Team-Paulding County. More 147 athletes compted in the race.

The Peachtree City team did amazingly well at their home meet. Thirty-eight athletes competed for the Flash. The 8-and-under Boys took first place team as did the 10-and-under girls team and the 12-and-under girls team. The 10-and-under boys took second place.

The 8-and-under girls ran a 2K race. Haley Smith finished fourth with a time of 9:55, which set a Personal Best Record. Chelsey Bowman, who is only six, finished with a time of 11:16. The 8-and-under boys also ran a 2K. Tomoharu Shimada finished in third place with a time of 8:47, while Baylen Garrett, finished in fourth place with a time of 8:50. Mitchell Miller finished in eighth place with a time of 9:41 and Ian Roberts, also six years old, finished tih a time of 10:51.

The 10-and-under girls ran a 3K race. Mary Roberts lead the team with a fourth place finish with a time of 12:48. She was followed by Shannon Philipps, fifth place, 12:55, Kara Markle, eighth place, 14:11 and Kie Fujii, 10th place, 14:30. Other members of the 10 and Under team were Mary Herbal,14:34, Renee Wetli,14:42, Katie Jeffery, 16:11 and Emilly Richardson, 16:25.

The 10-and-under boys also ran a 3K. They were led by Zach Laskey, 13:45, who was followed by Justin Jarrell, 13:49,Parker Bachman, 15:08, Scott Vermeyen, 15:11, Parker Elliott, 15:40, Eric Wilson, 16:03, Wesley Smith, 18:25, Kyle Wilson, 19:05 and Matthew Martin, 19:07.

The 12-and-under girls ran a 3K.

Rebecca Stokes led the team with a third place finish and a time of 12:38. She was followed by Fumika Shimada, sixth place, 13:14, Whitney Huguelet, eighth place, 13:30, Alex Bonovita, 10th place, 14:13, Kelly Adams, 11th place, 15:16 and Tarsha Bingly, 12th place, 18:08. The 12 and Under Boys were lead by Vincent Brown, who had a fourth place finish with a time of 11:25. He was followed by Jonathan Garrett, 12:55, Jake Hainey, 13:52 and Nathaniel Jeffery, 14:57.

The 14-and-under girls ran a 4K race. They were led by Lacey Garrett, who finished eighth with a time of 18:39, and Kathleen Biles, who finished ninth, with a time of 18:39. Kelly Huguelet finished with a time of 20:43. The 14 and Under Boys also ran a 4K. They were lead by Sean Wetli who finished with a time of 16:53. Wetli was followed by Troy Elliott with a time of 18:49. The 15-and-under boys were led by Ryan Laskey, 18:52.

All 8-Boys, 10-Girls, 12-Boys, and 14-girls and boys had personal records. The 10-Girls have been first place team at every cross country meet this season. The Peachtree City Running Club was of great help, providing supplies as well as their personal time as rabbits (race pacers), timers, course monitors, finish line help, etc. Even Valerie Reed, President of the Atlanta Track Club, was there to help with awards. The team is now preparing for state meets, AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) State Meet next Sunday, Nov. 4th, in Hogansville, GA and USATF (United States of America Track and Field) state meet Nov. 10 in Carrolton.
