McIntosh boys win region championship

The region 4-AAAAA cross country championships took place last Saturday at The Beach in Jonesboro. McIntosh's girls team, the favorite in the race and expected to be among the top contenders for the Class AAAAA state title, finished in second place to Lovejoy by a point. Starr's Mill placed fourth, while Fayette County placed 10th. McIntosh's boys however won, while Starr's Mill placed third and Fayette County's boys placed fifth.

The top five runners for McIntosh were Shaun Emery, fourth, 17:34; Anthony Collier Quinn, sixth, 17:44; Ben Brantly, eighth, 17:51; Randy Hutchinson, 10, 17:58 and Charlie Gonzalez, 16, 18:15.

McIntosh had three girls finish in the top 10: Dana Van Winkle, fifth, 20:59; Elizabeth Gardner, sixth, 21:00 and Judy Thomasson, seventh, 21:04. Mary Crofton finished in 12th place for the lady Chiefs with a time of 22:02, while Nicole Degner rounded out the top five for McIntosh with an 18th place finish in a time of 22:38.

Starr's Mill's top five runners included Heather Krehbiel, 16, 22:19; Katie Hughes, 17, 22:36; Jennifer Kroupa, 21, 22:44; Lee Ann Norris, 28, 23:51 and Hanna Sargent, 34, 24:19. Fayette County's top five runners were Kyle Mageral, 33, 24:12; Kerry Mageral, 40, 24:41; Allison Nelms, 56, 26:29; Stephanie Patterson, 57, 26:33 and Damielle Ashley, 62, 27:20.
