McIntosh sweeps cross country county championships

McIntosh showed their dominance at the county cross country championships last week. The boys won their secodn county championship in a row, while Fayette County placed second, Starr's Mill placed third and Sandy Creek placed fourth. The Lady Chiefs, who have never lost the county championships, won again with Starr's Mill placing second.

The McIntosh boys had seven of the top 11 runners in the meet, while the Lady Chiefs had nine of the top 10. Shaun Emery was the top runner in the boys division with a time of 16:33, while Dana Van Winkle was the top runner in the girls division with a time of 19:59. Heather Krehbiel of Starr's Mill was the only non-McIntosh runner in the top ten with a third place finish and a time of 20:48.

McIntosh and Starr's Mill will both compete at the last Chance Invitational in Carrollton tomorrow. The region championships will take place at The Beach in Jonesboro the following Saturday and the state meet will be the following weekend in Carrollton. McIntosh is a faovrite in the region meet and should be among the top Class AAAAA teams at the state meet.
