Candidate for Peachtree City mayor announces his intentions

On Friday, Sept 14, I qualified as a candidate for mayor of Peachtree City. As many of you who know me will attest, I have never been one to sit around when there is work to be done. You also know that I am not afraid to get my hands dirty, whether it's the Line Creek Nature Area or the F-16 project at Falcon Field, both of which I had the honor of directing.

Like you, I have read, with growing trepidation, the rhetoric in the local papers from other candidates. The distortions, inaccuracies, personal attacks and fear tactics have struck at the very heart of our community, causing confusion, suspicion and increasing divisiveness. In all races, there are winners and losers. A race won with these tactics as allies will produce only losers.

I stand before you seeking your support. I am proud of our city, and proud to call it my family's home. It is where my wife, Gwen, and I raise our children and run our business.

Everyday we see changes in our city - new stores, new businesses, new houses, more traffic, more students and more resources. Reconciling the good and bad that these changes bring to Peachtree City will be the challenge that faces our mayor and the council in the next few years.

There are problems dealing with build-out. How do we handle the infrastructure growing pains and pay for it all? There are no easy solutions, no quick fixes. With cooperation, openness, honesty and integrity between the city, county, state and you, we can and will solve these problems and preserve the quality of life that drew so many of us to Peachtree City in the first place.

As a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, I took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, to defend all that we hold dear, and to conduct myself as an officer and gentleman. I did not take that oath lightly, and I pledge to you, that as your mayor, I will guide the future course of our fine city with that oath in mind.

I ask for your guidance, your support, and your vote Nov. 6.

Gary Rower

Candidate for Peachtree City mayor
