Rapson supporter: Leadership is what keeps America strong

Leadership is not a common commodity in our country or in our community. As our nation mourns the dreadful acts of Sept. 11, we are comforted to know that we have individuals in key places to see us through what lies ahead. It is with that sobering thought in mind that I want to talk about the characteristics of one of our candidates for Peachtree City Council, Steve Rapson.

I have known Steve and his family for the last four years through our mutual association on the soccer fields. His wit and fun-loving candor are well-balanced against his careful and thoughtful approach to matters that "matter." He has been a challenging force to the status quo on issues such as annexation and increases in property taxes, based on his careful analysis of the details, listening to the voice of the people he represents, and reliance on his personal and professional experience. (Oh yes I should add that he is a financial professional for a government agency, giving him deeper insight into decisions involving taxpayer dollars). He is a seasoned veteran of government service at both the city and county levels of government.

Steve volunteered to fill the vacated seat he now occupies on the City Council, and was selected by the current council from a slate of 16. His leadership traits, experience, and openness differentiated him from the pack as an independent thinker. His tenacity and courage (strengthened courtesy of his service in the United States Marine Corps.) make him stand out among his peers.

In these trying times, there are a great number of matters we face as a perplexed nation. Here is one action we can take as voters in our enduring democracy elect Steve Rapson for Peachtree City Council. Let's keep America strong.

God bless America.

Steve Fraas
