Flat Rock invites community to 147th anniversary celebration this Sunday

Flat Rock A.M.E. Church invites the community to join in its 147th anniversary celebration this Sunday with worship, food and historical tours of the property.

The celebration begins with worship service at 10 a.m., followed by an old-fashioned cookout at 12:30 p.m. Historical tours will be offered following lunch and a special anniversary worship service is planned for 3:30 p.m. with guest pastor the Rev. Milton Reeves of Rising Star baptist Church.

"We are having a 'total day' celebration," a spokesperson said. "We hope community members will help us to lift up the name of God in praise, worship and thanks for our 147 years."

Back in 1854, Flat Rock was the parent for five other churches in Fayetteville. The current pastor is the Rev. Charles Atkins Jr.

Flat Rock is at 148 Old Chapel Lane just off Ga. Hwy. 54 near Adams Farm. For more information, call the church, 770-461-0283, or chairperson Carietta Butts, 770-719-2919.
