Six of the seven local soccer teams from Region 4-AAAAA saw their seasons come to an end over the weekend in the quarterfinals of the AAAAA state soccer tournament. The only team to survive was the top ranked McIntosh Lady Chiefs, who will play in the semifinals tonight.

The boys teams played last Friday. McIntosh hosted Parkview, their annual postseason rivals, while Fayette County played at Milton and Starr's Mill played at Brookwood. The Chiefs game went in to double overtime before Parkview scored, thus closing out the McIntosh boys season. Omar Jarun scored the goal for the Chiefs. Starr's Mill faced Brookwood and lost 2-1. Jared Grace scored for the Panthers off of a throw in from Robert Cooper. Though Starr's Mill had several more scoring opportunities, they could not capitalize. Fayette County faced Milton and lost, 3-1.

The girls played their games on Saturday. Newnan's Lady Cougars saw their historic postseason run come to an end as they lost to the Harrison Lady Hoyas, 2-1. Amanda Morton scored the goal for Newnan on a well-placed penalty kick. The Fayette County Lady Tigers hosted Walton and lost, 5-1, while Starr's Mill hosted Pope and lost 2-1. Alice Martin scored the lone goal for the Lady Panthers before the half. McIntosh's Lady Chiefs played at Sprayberry and won, 1-0. Britney Jones scored the goal for the Lady Chiefs with less than 12 minutes remaining in regulation. McIntosh had more touches on the ball and more shots but could not capitalize.

The Lady Chiefs will face Harrison tonight at 6 p.m. If they win they will host the winner of the Pope/Walton match in the finals on Saturday.
