County should remove grocery tax

Several years ago the Georgia Legislature removed all sales taxes on groceries. However, Fayette County still collects 1 per cent sales tax on food items purchased as groceries.

If the state of Georgia decided that removing the tax was in the best interest of the Georgia residents, then Fayette County should follow suit.

I believe it is past time for the Commissioners to remove this unfair tax. I have written the County Commissioners about this tax but they have not bothered to address my comments. I urge all Fayette County residents to write the commissioners about removing this unfair tax. We are overtaxed as it is.
