Starr's Mill boys defeated Stockbridge on Monday, 7-2, improving their overall record to 8-3 and their sub-region record to 5-0. The panthers led 3-0 at the half and got goals from Tim Fevella, Josh Vanderbush, Tim Murphy, Brandon Henry Erik Simonsen, Mike Hubbard and Brandon Adams. The Panthers were scheduled to travel to Walton on Thursday but the game may have been cancelled due to inclement weather. Starr's Mill will be off until April 11 when they host Lovejoy at 7:30 p.m.

There will be plenty of soccer around here this weekend though, as the McIntosh boys face Warner Robins, Dobyns-Bennett and Vestavia Hills in the McIntosh Classic on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Chiefs game against Warner Robins tonight is scheduled for 8 p.m., while tomorrow's game against Vestavia Hills is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Lady Cougars rolled to an 8-1 victory over county rival and sub-area foe East Coweta to further entrench themselves in second place behind McIntosh on one side of Area 4-AAAAA. The first fifteen minutes produced a back and forth affair with Newnan gaining momentum with each shot. East Coweta held the line until the 15th minute when Lanie Scott scored her first on a pass from Amanda Morton. Four minutes later Scott got her second with Patricia Ballantyne assisting. Newnan was now firing on all cylindersand Morton got into the scoring act with two goals within the next four minutes, one from Scott and the other from a Sister Edge feed.

The game settled into a shooting fest for the Lady Cougars but they could not find the back of the net the rest of the opening period. Stacy Moore, Margaret Gosch, Tiffany Sellen, and Lauren Clifton worked well together in the back to keep East Coweta pinned in their end until the half. The second stanza was a wake up call as the Indians scored in just over a minute to put the game at 4-1. Two more chances and a flurry of activity in the Newnan box had the home side believing in a comeback. Scott completed her hat trick four minutes later and Morton scored two unassisted goals soon after within a three minute span. With six minutes left, Whitney Mansour put the final nail in the coffin as Edge played her into the box alone. She slotted the ball home and 8-1 was the final.

Newnan was scheduled to travel to Fayette County High School last night. Both teams will have spring break off and the Lady Tigers will face East Coweta on April 10. Sandy Creek's boys will hostUnion Grove tonight at 7:30 p.m.
