Know the score?

Softball league needs scorekeepers

The Peachtree City Recreation Department is in need of at least three more individuals to keep score in the adult softball program, beginning in March. Indications are there will possibly be 60-65 adult teams that will register to play in this year's league play. That will require three games per night on three fields for five nights per week, which translates to 45 games per week. These positions will be available beginning in late March through June for spring league and post-season tournament play and July through September for fall league play.

Games are scheduled for 7, 8 and 9 p.m. nightly, Monday though Friday on fields 1, 2 and 3 at Meade Memorial Athletic Fields, located at the intersection of Rockaway Road and State Highway 74 South. Games pay $7.50 each, payable every two weeks.

Experience is not necessary; however, it would be helpful. It would also be helpful if the potential scorekeeper was available to work all five nights even though they would not necessarily be scheduled for all five and/or was available to work on short notice due to other scorekeepers becoming unavailable. Minimum age is 16 and you must have access to transportation. Needless to say, approximately half of league play will be during the school year (April May and September) so prospective school-age scorekeepers must not allow working to interfere with completing their assigned schoolwork and maintaining satisfactory grades.

The Recreation Department will conduct a short cram course on softball scorekeeping prior to opening day for those with no experience and as a refresher for those with limited experience. Please contact the Peachtree City Recreation Department at 770-631-2542 if you are interested.
