In

Many cultural commentators
argue that the United States has entered the post-Christian era, and
many applaud that transition as a desirable change in an increasingly
multicultural society with diverse religious viewpoints.

"The Sixth
Day," the new Schwarzenegger movie, has been slammed by critics
as a mindless, shoot 'em up sci fi, which is exactly why I enjoyed it
so much, I suppose.

Citizen's Perspective
Christmas is that
time of year when children seem to light up brighter than any light
on any tree. They write thoughtful letters to Santa, picking their words
like they were picking jewels in the sand so as not to appear greedy
in the eyes of the patron of presents.

My family is going
to Disneyworld for Christmas this week and it will be, as far as I know,
the first time I have not been home on Christmas or Christmas Eve my
whole life. Though part of me is sad with sentiment, I am sure I will
quickly be distracted by four days of people, people and more people.
Oh, yeah, Mickey Mouse will be there, too

'Friends' disappointed in city's lack of support for Main Street
I received the very
disheartening news today that Shellie Reed - Main Street Director -
has resigned her position. What a loss to the City of Fayetteville and
the Main Street Program. Shellie brought a level of enthusiasm, professionalism,
and dedication to the Main Street Program that had not been previously
achieved.
Did
Grinch steal Fayetteville's Christmas spirit this year?

that this is the Christmas season. What is wrong with Fayetteville?
Tax
inequity: City folks gets lots more sales tax rollbacks than county folks
As Fayette County
residents, we all pay the 1 percent local option sales tax. That money
does not disappear into a giant dark hole: except for about 1.5 percent
of it which the state and the merchants keep, it reappears as income
to the county government (which receives 47.5 percent), Peachtree City
(35.64 percent), Fayetteville (11.36 percent), Tyrone (4.91 percent),
and Brooks (0.59 percent). This is fact, not fiction.
Columbus
mayor: Consolidate to achieve tax equity, savings
As the mayor of
one of the first consolidated governments in the United States and the
first in Georgia, your article concerning the dispute between the city
and the county over tax equity and the local option sales tax compelled
me write.
Greetings
from Alaska to the Lower 48 Help!
Recently I was reading
an article from a November Anchorage Daily News on Lessons in Coping.
I know that the lower 48 has different concepts of what goes on here
in Alaska. And I have learned in the past two and a half years of living
in the "bush" that even people in Alaska have a misconception
of what goes on in parts of their own state.
