No more Deadly Decembers

The past couple of months have been so deadly that this year, we will remember the last month of 2000 as Deadly December.

What sticks out most is the age of these young victims. They had barely experienced 20 years on earth. It is heart wrenching when death occurs, but when encompassed within the holiday season, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, that makes it all the more difficult to bear.

Without mentioning names, the circumstances surrounding these occurrences are quite disturbing. One young lady was snatched in broad daylight in a shopping center parking lot with witnesses standing by. Another was burnt beyond recognition in the trunk of a car. When is it going to stop; or has it just begun?

There was a time when the holiday season was a special time of giving and living through joyous occasions. Now it seems the holidays are marred with violence and selfishness. The watchwords used to be "Peace on Earth," and "Goodwill to men." Now, the number one movie in society is "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas."

What will it take for all mankind to put a little love back into living? And who will be the first to acknowledge the need. I'll be first if I have to, but it takes more than one person. Let's all work together and make this our last Deadly December.
