Many repeat winners last week at Senoia Speedway Covington's J.R. Hardy led from start to finish for his first win of the 2000 racing season in the Alan Vigil Southlake Ford 50 at Senoia Speedway Saturday evening. Hardy, who drives a Chevrolet Monte Carlo for Von Trucking/Jack Kirkus Construction, has consistently run in the top five since coming to Senoia midway through the season. Hardy was a track champion at Senoia several years ago and now at the age of 42 has proven that he still knows his way around the old 3/8-mile track. Finishing second was Tyrone's Wayne Hansard, last season's points champion, who battled Hardy the last 20 laps, falling short by a half car length at the finish line. Third place went to current points leader Marc Mitchell with Tyrone's Scott Griffin finishing fourth from his eighth place starting position. Union City's Rod Williford led from lap six of the 30-lap Sportsman feature to record his third win of the season Saturday night. Finishing second was last week's winner, Andy Cash from Brooks with Newnan's Steve Payton, who led the first five laps of the feature, finishing third. Rounding out the top five was Charles White in fourth and Mark Lore from Senoia in fifth. Locust Grove's Robbie Gober continues to dominate in the Street Stock division at Senoia Speedway as he recorded his 10th win of the season, along with his fifth win in a row. Gober passed second place finisher Larry Pierce with two laps remaining from his eighth place starting position. Finishing third was Senoia's Mark Lore along with fellow Senoia driver Ted Willingham in fourth. Double points and double money sometimes brings out the best in some people as Gay, Ga.'s Troy French took the lead from Darrell Carlson on the third of 30 laps in the Mini Stock feature. Making his best finish of the year in second was Steve Adams with Kevin Adams in third. Peachtree City native Reed Sorenson grabbed the lead from pole starter Marc Mitchell with 14 laps remaining in the Pro and Semi Pro Masters race to claim his fourth win of the season. Second place went to Lovejoy's Doug Stevens, who won last week's feature. Rounding out the top five was Shane Upchurch in third with Andy James in fourth and Jim Thomasson in fifth. Senoia's Bubba Pollard returned to Victory Lane, as he passed second place finisher Brandon Brilliant with four laps remaining in the Young Lions/Charger race, for his eighth win of the season. Finishing third was Scott Tinsley who started eighth. Fourth and fifth place went to Cindy Anderson and Bubba Harry. Sometimes it takes a complete makeover to make you a winner. Such is the case for Sharpsburg's Matt Peeples, who had four second-place finishes before suffering a scary wreck last weekend that damaged his car to the frame rail. Peeples dominated this night in the Bandeleros as he led all 15 laps for his first ever win at Senoia Speedway. John Wes Townley finished second to Peeples by a whole straightaway at the end. Finishing third was Chris Cables with Adam Gray and Ryan Gatlin rounding out the top five. |
