Big games for local teams in sixth week of the season

The high school football season is half over and our local teams are entering the second half with one thing on their mind more wins.

Starr's Mill (5-0) hosts Lovejoy (3-1) tonight in what should be their last really tough game of the season. Their last four opponents have five wins between them and none of the teams has a winning record. The Panthers have to be feeling good and if they stick to their game plan, theyll be just fine.

In another premier match, East Coweta (4-0) hosts Evans (4-0). W ithout a doubt this will be the Indians' toughest match of the season so far and their offense will need to be more effective than in last week's 3-0 victory over Fayette County. The defense performed well last week and will need to play well again to have a good chance at beating Evans.

McIntosh (1-3) is coming off of a win against Eagle's Landing in their homecoming game. Their opponent this week is Newnan (3-1), which plays a similar style of ball to Eagle's Landing but is much better. They run harder and faster and throw and catch better. The Chiefs' defense will have to be on their game Friday and they can't commit as many penalties as they did last week.

Fayette County (1-4) travels to face Henry County (1-4) tonight. As long as they don't overlook this team, they should win. The Tigers have a solid running game, big guys on the offensive and defensive lines and, most importantly, desire. They desire a win and if they can play mistake-free ball, they shoudl get it.

Sandy Creek (2-2) is ranked ninth in AAAA, after losing to Creekside last Friday. This week's road game against Jones County (3-1) should be a good test for the Patriots. A win would still keep them on track for a shot at the playoffs and would help boost their confidence. Sandy Creek should not be down right now. Their two losses came against two of the top programs in AAAA and you can only get better when you're playing the best.

Creekside (5-0) is ranked fourth in AAAA and will host Woodward Academy (1-3) tonight. The offense needs to continue clicking on all cylinders and the defense needs to continue playing intense. The Seminoles are having a great season and should win, as long as they don't overlook the War Eagles.

Northgate (4-1) gambled last week in overtime against Manchester and lost. The Vikings won't get near as dangerous a situation this week as they travel to take on Callaway (2-3). The Vikings are too talented on both sides of the ball to get mired in last week's loss. Look for Northgate to score early and often.

Things don't get any easier for Landmark Christian (1-4) this week, as they travel to take on Bremen (4-1). The War Eagles offense has been improving steadily and their defense has worked very well against the run, but if they get tested on the pass too much, this could be a long night. Landmark needs to force Bremen to make mistakes early and shake them from their game plan.
