ECCA seeks support
for performing arts center in old Carmike Cinema
As many of you are aware, the Endowment Committee for Cultural Arts of Fayette County has been actively searching for a facility that would serve as a center for the arts in Fayette County. We believe we have found an excellent location that suits our present needs and permits growth and expansion of the Performing and visual Arts programs for years to come! The Carmike Cinema, located in Westpark Walk at the intersection of Ga. highways 74 and 54 in Peachtree City, has recently ceased operation, and the building has been made available for lease. Withmoderate renovation, the three theaters located within the complex can be converted into two theaters. This will permit establishment of a 300- to 350-seat main auditorium with sufficient stage size, dressing rooms, storage and rehearsal space to accommodate the needs of any performing arts organization within Fayette County. The second theater would seat up to 125 people and be available for those civic and cultural organizations requiring limited stage space for concerts, presentations, meetings, etc. The lobby area will be converted to a permanent gallery where local artists can display and market their original works to the citizens of our county and the surrounding area. We are excited by the availability of this excellent facility and encouraged at the reception we have received from the mayor, city manager, and several members of the Peachtree City Council in our preliminary discussions with them concerning the acquisition of this building. We are proposing to Peachtree City that they enter into a lease for the facility and contract with the E.C.C.A for its renovation, maintenance andmanagement. This lease and contract agreement would extend for the initial three-year period of the lease. At the end of the three years, or sooner if possible, the E.C.C.A. would assume full responsibility for themanagement, operation and maintenance of the center. This proposal would provide the E.C.C.A the opportunity to bring the Performing and Visual Arts Centerto a fully self-supporting entity within that time frame. Now, we need your help and support! We encourage you to call, write or e-mail your support of our proposal to the mayor and members of the Peachtree City Council. This is a golden opportunity for Peachtree City to become the cultural and artistic heart of Fayette County. It is the most economically feasible way to gain the performing arts space we so desperately need in our county. Please add your name to the growing list of individuals who enjoy and support the arts and who are providing financial, personal, and moral support to improving the quality of life in Fayette County! We welcome your help in volunteering your time and ideas in assisting us in raising the necessary funds required for the renovations required. Listed below are the e-mailaddress of the mayor and council members, along with their mailing address at the Peachtree City Municipal Building. Please contact them today and express your support!
