It is almost officially the
end of summer.
The proof is that the summer concert series at the Frederick Brown Jr.
Amphitheater is coming to close. The series is going out with a bang,
though, as .38 Special takes the stage this Friday and Saturday.
Though it does not easily fit in any one classification of music and has
changed with the tides of popular music over the last quarter century,
.38 Special is one of the premiere Southern rock 'n' roll bands.
It was formed in 1974 in Jacksonville, Fla. and its members have a very
strong connection to one of the best known Southern bands of all time,
Lynyrd Skynyrd. .38 Special's vocalist and guitarist, Donnie Van Zant,
is the brother of Skynyrd's Ronnie Van Zant.
That connection certainly helped .38 Special get started, but the bands
successful career has been all its own making.
Over the years the band has recorded five gold albums and four platinum
albums. It has recorded such hit songs as "Teacher, Teacher,"
"Rockin' Into The Night." "Hold on Loosely," "Caught
Up In You," and "If I'd Been The One." .38 Special tours
year round and is currently putting the finishing touches on yet another
album.
.38 Special will play the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater Friday and
Saturday, Sept. 22 and 23. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the
amphitheater box office or by calling 770-631-0630.
