The Sandy Creek varsity volleyball
team is having a successful season. They improved their record to 16-3
last week with wins over Union Grove, Rockdale, Stockbridge and Banneker.
The Lady Patriots faced Union Grove last Tuesday and won, 15-11 and 15-2.
Union Grove is playing a varsity schedule but has no seniors on the squad.
In their next match of the day, Sandy Creek defeated Rockdale County,
15-12 and 15-9. "We didn't play our best that day," said Coach
James Slaton. "Our opponents were good athletes and we got lucky."
Last Thursday, Sandy Creek faced Stockbridge and Banneker. The Lady Patriots
defeated Stockbridge, 15-7 and 15-8 and then beat banneker 15-2, 17-15.
Sandy Creek gave up eight straight points to Banneker at the beginning
of the second game and later trailed 10-3, but they rebounded back to
win the game and the match.
The Lady Patriots will need to play that tough this week as well. They
traveled to face Woodward, one of the toughest programs in the state,
on Tuesday and will trvael to Starr's Mill to take on the Panthers and
North Springs on Thursday. Sandy Creek seems to improve when they play
tough programs and improvement before the area tournament couldn't hurt.
