Credit PTC's Tennant for vote against west side annexation

I was surprised but pleased to learn the Peachtree City Council voted not to annex the 914 acres on the west side of Peachtree City, the so called “West Village.”

I was amused to read in the paper that council members Brooks, Fritz, and McMenamin echoed what Dan Tennant has been saying all along about annexation, that it will make a disaster of our worsening traffic situation, that the density is too high, and that it will put too much pressure on the school system and related infrastructure.

Tennant won every precinct in the city in his election by being the only candidate to have the guts to firmly oppose annexation, since that is what the people demanded. He stuck to his word, and led the fight to save the Peachtree City we all know and love.

My guess is that the other council members, who voted to lift the annexation moratorium earlier this year, knew Tennant would eventually have his say in council chambers once the task force had completed its mission. And they probably realized the arguments Tennant would raise were in sync with the majority of the citizens of Peachtree City.

So we have a case of “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”
Thanks, Mr. Tennant, for keeping your word and for listening to the people.
