win shootout By MICHAEL BOYLAN The Fayette County 2000 Summer Classic was held at the four Fayette County high schools over the weekend. Fayette County, McIntosh, Sandy Creek and Starr's Mill fielded teams and competed against squads from all over the state. Fayette County fielded three teams and won the tournament with their Divsion I team. The Tigers faced Lovejoy on Thursday and won by a score of 7-6. Eric Barnes was the winning pitcher. Shaw defeated the Tigers with an dominating pitching performance on Friday by a score of 11-4. Fayette County's bats came alive on Saturday as they defeated Wayne County by a score of 11-7. Matt Owens hit a two run homerun, while Christian Wahiwe hit a solo shot. Brian Moss pitched a complete game for the Tigers. Fayette County concluded the tournament on Sunday with a 9-4 win over the Gresham Park Braves. T.J. Brandenburg got the win, while Josh Hunter recorde the save. Gresham Park finished the tournament as the runner up in Division I. The Tigers will host Sandy Creek tonight at 6 and 8 p.m. and will head to the Parkview Shoot-out on Thursday. They will face Marist at Marist at 2:15 p.m. Brantley County (3-1) won Division II, while Eastside claimed the runner-up position. Centrall Carrollton (4-0) won Division III, while Starr's Mill captured the runner up position with a 3-1 record. Eagle's Landing won Division IV. The Gresham Park Mariners won Division V with a 4-0 record and Sandy Creek finished as runners-up with a 3-1 record. |
