What's real story on Price's votes on schools, GRTA?

Re: State senator's voting record still distorted.

In Wednesday's May 31, 2000, letters to the editor, Mr. Pfeifer attempted to clarify state Senator Rick Price's voting record on the education bill and the Georgia Regional Transportation Act (GRTA). Unfortunately he did not tell the whole truth.

If anyone checked the record as Mr. Pfeifer had challenged, one would find that Mr. Price voted for the first education bill presented in the senate. This vote came after a four-hour meeting with his other Republican senators and state School Superintendent Linda Schrenko. Mr. Price informed Superintendent Schrenko at the end of that meeting he would vote for the education bill and he did.

His vote against the final version was a vote against a better bill than the one he voted for. Hopefully, Mr. Price will supply us the true answer to why he voted for the first version.

With regard to GTRA, Mr. Price had a golden opportunity to fight against this bill since it came from his committee. In committee is where a senator can affect legislation the most. But, Mr. Price said not a word and voted for it out of committee and consistently voted for the first version on the senate floor.

Mr. Pfeifer would like for us to believe that Mr. Price voted on principle against these two egregious pieces of legislation, but Mr. Price picked and chose his loyalties and principles as he thought would suit him the best — not the voters of the 28th District.

Come on, Mr. Pfeifer and Mr. Price, let's tell the whole story to the people of this district. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Mitch Seabaugh

Candidate, State Senate District 28
