Lady Cougars hold banquet to celebrate good season

Newnan High School held their annual soccer banquet last night at Plant Yates park to wrap up their 2000 campaign. The Lady Cougars and Cougars were treated to dinner by the parents and Booster Club to celebrate their seasons and get together one final time. Awards for the Lady Cougars were as follows:

Most Valuable Player Lauren Clifton

Lady Cougar Award Amanda Morton

Heart of a Champion Katie Smith

Academic Award Jessica Moore

The girls enjoyed a return to the region playoffs this year after a three year absence. They won nine games this year for the fourth time in their seven year history and placed fourth in the region with five region wins.

Their overall record was 9-6-1 including a third place finish in the Lady Cougar Classic and a 4-0 win over arch rival East Coweta. Their tie was against Fort Payne (AL) who is currently in the quarterfinals in 5A state competition in Alabama.

The Lady Cougars set many season records including most goals in a season and individual season records were set by Lanie Scott(most goals and most points) and Amanda Morton (most assist). Scott alsoset a new school record for goals in a game with five and Morton tied her own school record for assists in a game with four.

Lauren Clifton, Stephanie Deason, and Morton were also selected to the All Area as voted by the coaches in the area. Morton tied for the most votes received by a single player.
