Outlaw Thunder to boom at Senoia Speedway

Wild and exciting winged outlaw sprint car racing comes to Senoia Speedway Saturday night May 13th. The United Sprint Car Series (U.S.C.S.) "Outlaw Thunder" Tour roars into the fast 3/8th mile asphalt oval-located 4 miles West of Georgia interstate 85 on Georgia Highway 16 for its first visit of the 2000 season.

This Weekend's race is expected to bring drivers from seven or more states to the Speedway with their alcohol burning 700+ Horsepower winged open wheeled cars.

The cars, which weigh approximately 1300 pounds, will literally fly around the track at speeds well in excess of 120 miles per hour. It's not uncommon to see these powerful vehicles popping "wheelies" or doing wheelstands, because of the brute force of their engines and their huge 18 inch wide rear tires.

Heavy-hitter entries include: series points leader and 1997 U.S.C.S. Champion Red Stauffer of Winter Park, FL., who won the U.S.C.S. asphalt opener at Albany Motor Speedway's 1/4 mile asphalt oval on April 1st and Florida State Champion Kenny Adams, Stauffer's teammate, who won the dirt opener at 7 Flags Speedway on April 15th, is entered as well. But Stauffer will have his hands full with a host of challengers to include: seven-time National sprint car champion, Terry Gray of Bartlett, Tennessee, who has over 300 wins and his teammate, Toby Brown of Joplin, Missouri.

Plus the "Georgia Gang" including local sprint car racer, Pete Walton of Fayetteville; 1999 U.S.C.S. "Rookie" champion, Chris Rogers of Winston, Ga., 1999 asphalt runner-up Ted Williams, Randy Helton, Jim Raptis, Ian Thomas, and Jim McKenzie all of Atlanta. Other entries included Dave Thomas of Greenville, South Carolina, and Jerry Steele of Winston-Salem.

Saturday night's program will include a "dash" comprised of the top six qualifiers, heats, and a 40 lap main event in the Outlaw sprints.

U.S.C.S. promoter, Pete Walton, predicts a new track record as sprint cars usually go 1.5 to 2.0 seconds faster than anything else that has visited the speedway. The program will also feature races in the speedway's stock car divisions.

Gates open Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for the pits and grandstands open at 5:00 p.m. Racing starts at 7:00 p.m. So come on out early and have some great family fun at Senoia Speedway this Saturday night for "Outlaw Thunder" 2000. Pit gate open at 4:00pm, grandstand at 5:00pm with racing beginning at 7:00pm.
