Annual
adoptathon returns Four local humane organizations will participate in this year's national Pet Adoptathon, sponsored by PETsMART and the North Shore Animal League, this Saturday and Sunday. Adoption hours will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fayetteville PETsMART store in the Pavilion Shopping Center. During last year's two-day event, Georgia placed 11th in the country in the number of homeless animals that were adopted. Besides a terrific selection of pets, there will be balloons for the kids, hourly prize drawings, and dog training and obedience demonstrations. Saturday at 2 p.m., Diane Gordon, PETsMART obedience instructor, will discuss the various methods of dealing with obedience problems, including housebreaking and separation anxiety. The volunteers of the nonprofit Fayette County Humane Society, Georgia Heartland Humane Society, Good Shepherd Humane Society and Griffin/Spalding Humane Society are inviting everyone to adopt a lifelong companion, make a donation, or sign up to volunteer some time on behalf of the community's homeless animals.
