Bonsai
festival comes to Atlanta this weekend Bonsai (pronounced bone-sigh) is a complex and ancient art form, but you don't have to be an art critic to appreciate the spectacular beauty of trees grown in miniature. To experience the stunning beauty of bonsai for yourself, plan to attend The Atlanta Bonsai Society's 37th annual Spring Show May 6 and 7 in the Atlanta Botanical Garden's Day Hall. This year's Spring Show will include an exhibition of pines, maples and azaleas and other tree species drawn from the collection of local enthusiasts. Show times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A demonstration illustrating how bonsai are created will be offered Saturday at 1 p.m. Bonsai trees and materials will be for sale in the Cox Courtyard throughout the show. The sales area, show and demonstration are free with paid admission to the ABG. The Atlanta Bonsai Society Inc., is a nonprofit educational organization. The ABS was established in 1963. Its mission is to promote public interest and participation in the ancient art of bonsai. The ABS sponsors monthly workshops and demonstrations in development, design, cultivation and maintenance of bonsai.
