Lady Cougars to host first soccer jamboree this weekend

The Lady Cougars open their 2000 campaign this Saturday, February 5th, in the first annual Lady Cougar Jamboree in Drake Stadium on Newnan's campus.

The format, similar to the football jamborees held in the fall, allows for Newnan to play three other schools in round robin format.  Each game is 30 minutes long with all statistics and results not counting toward the regular season.  It is the public's first chance to catch the Lady Cougars and Newnan's preseason opportunity to prepare for the season.  This year's jamboree will feature Newnan, Wheeler (6-AAAA), Alexander (5-AAAA), and Norcross (8-AAAA).  Both Wheeler and Norcross ended 1999 in their respective region playoffs while Alexander and Newnan just missed out.

These four teams will battle from 12:00 until 4:00 on Saturday with Alexander and Newnan kicking off the jamboree at noon.  Newnan will face Norcross at 1:15 and Wheeler at 3:05.

Newnan will be led by returning varsity players Amanda Morton, Patricia Ballantyne, Whitney Mansour, Sister Edge, Katie Smith, Tiffany Sellen, and Jessica Moore. Newnan also has several players moving up from the junior varsity, a few new faces, and an outstanding freshman class.
