Blood donors needed as freeze leads to shortage of types O- and B-; blood drive today at Fayette County Public Library from 3-7 p.m. (Photo of PTC fountain frozen over submitted by Christina Olvey of Fayetteville) Temperatures are expected to break into the 40s today to break the recent freeze that has left icy roads in some areas of Fayette and Coweta counties. But south metro Atlanta could be in for some snow early Tuesday according to the preliminary forecast released this morning by the National Weather Service. Meanwhile officials with the American Red Cross are making a special appeal for blood donors who have O-negative or B-negative blood types as those have fallen into a critical shortage due to the freeze. The cold weather led to the cancellation of several blood drives, and with more cold coming there is worry the shortage could be exacerbated. Fayette residents can help here today as a Red Cross blood drive will be held at the Fayette County Library in Fayetteville from 3-7 p.m. Donors wishing to make an appointment can do so online at www.redcrossblood.org. login to post comments |
