Slices of HeavenTue, 02/17/2009 - 2:15pm

By F.C. Foodie If you asked 100 people what their favorite food in the whole wide world is, one of the top answers on the Family Feud board would be pizza. It is a delicious treat that can be enjoyed for any meal of the day. The area is blessed with a number of great choices to grab a pie. Here are some of Foodie’s thoughts. Best overall: Oz Pizza - Yes, it is a little bit of a drive to get to downtown Fairburn, but it is well worth it. Oz Pizza delivers the best size, sauce and crust and is the best overall pizza. People from “up north” who claim to know the best need to look no further than Oz. The Hercules is one of my all-time favorite pizzas. Lots of meat and cheese. The rest of the best: • Mangarelli’s - This small, spartan location houses a great pizza recipe that is a little closer to home than Oz. They have a good variety of toppings and quite possibly the biggest pizza pie in the area. When driving to Oz is out of the question, Mangarelli’s is the Foodies choice. • Partners II Pizza - There are several pies that Partners II makes that no other establishment does (at least not as well) and when the craving for a Potato Pizza or a 24 Karat Pizza (grilled chicken, sweet and tangy sauce, onions, peppers) hits, Partners II is the place to go. They also get bonus points for having a terrific lunch buffet Monday-Friday. Thoughts on other pizzas - • Anthony’s Pizza and Pasta - The pizza here is good, nothing to complain about in the least, but when I go there I find myself ordering one of their delicious sandwiches instead. That said, if you’re looking for a good pie at Anthony’s, I really dig their Meat Lovers. • Pies On Pizza - I didn’t like it at first, but I had some of their breakfast pizzas at an event awhile back and really liked them. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go wrong with bacon and/ or sausage and Pies On had some really good ingredients on those breakfast pies. You probably have to order them the night before and heat them up in the morning, but I’ll bet they are still delicious. • Italian Oven - I feel like I often overlook this place, but it deserves recognition for having a very unique pizza offering. I love to order a chicken and bacon pizza from Italian Oven every now and then and I realize I am long overdue for another. The “Big Boys” • Domino’s - When I want a pizza delivered, this is the one I go with. I like the size and heft of the slice and the cheese and toppings taste good. • Papa John’s - I don’t like the cheese, but I like the garlic sauce that the pizza comes with for dipping. Do they still do that? If so, it’s worth an order every now and then. • Stevie B’s - This little pizza joint has been increasing the quality of their pies steadily over the last few years and you can’t beat the price. Their Macaroni and Cheese pizza is delicious, as is their Potato pizza and their Fajita pizza. It used to be a place for really cheap, one topping pizza, but they might be the best deal in town. I realize as I am ending this column that I didn’t mention Buck’s or Jet’s Pizza. Well, old Foodie doesn’t live in Peachtree City and I have only sampled their pies once or twice. They were just fine and would probably be on my pizza rotation if I lived closer. What do you think? Post a comment and weigh in. login to post comments |
