Fischer teaching Pilates at The Studio

"Tegan Fischer has joined the professional dance faculty at The Studio in Fayetteville," announced artistic director Magdalena Maury.

Fischer studied at the University of Utah and Florida State university, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from FSU. Her goal after college was to pursue certification in Pilates. She earned Pilates Mat certification in Florida, then moved to New York City for a year-long course incorporating all the Pilates equipment. Fischer has been continually studying and teaching Pilates for seven years.

"The wonderful thing about Pilates work is the individualized attention that is so often lacking in society today," said Fischer. "Pilates works at your own pace and to the fullest of your ability in each exercise. It is this individual approach that makes Pilates so effective in changing the posture and physique of its participants."

Pilates was first developed to help war veterans. It is now used by people of all ages, including athletes, dancers and anyone interested in being more fit. Benefits of Pilates include greater strength and muscle tone, improved flexibility, lower stress, less back pain, increased bone density and a trimmer waist through the natural girdle of strength.
