All local volleyball teams picked up some wins last weekTue, 09/05/2006 - 2:34pm

The Whitewater Wildcats traveled to Lovett to challenge St. Francis and Lovett last Thursday evening and came back with one win and one loss making their record 6-4 overall. Against St. Francis the Wildcats lost the first game 19-25, but came back to win the match by winning the next two games, 25-17 and 25-22. “The team showed a lot of heart to come back and win the match after losing the first game. We were a little rusty after not playing for a week and it showed early in the match, but we pulled together and finished it well,” said Thacker. Whitewater traveled to Starr’s Mill yesterday to open their region schedule against two big rivals that will test the team, Starr’s Mill and Northgate. They will host Creekside, Morrow and Westlake tomorrow. Starr’s Mill, which has a 14-2 record and has won eight games in a row, will travel to Lovett on Thursday to take on Lovett and Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy. Fayette County won two matches last Tuesday night against Lovejoy High (25-21, both games) and Riverdale (25-8, 25-11). Lindsey Gunter and Melanie Stephens racked up many kills during the action packed games. Rachel Barnes and Beth Hays aced numerous serves. Sarah Williams and Ronna Padilla led the team in assists as the team displayed great sportsmanship throughout the evening. The Lady Tigers traveled to play Banneker and Riverdale yesterday and will take on Dutchtown and Union Grove tomorrow at Union Grove. Landmark Christian took on Sandy Creek last week and won 23-25, 25-20, 25-16 before beating Heritage 25-19,25-20. It was the Lady War Eagles sixth win in a row. They will take on St. Pius and Lassiter at St. Pius tonight. The Lady Patriots are 13-3 overall. They will play in the Collins Hill tournament this Friday, facing Kell, Grayson and Collins Hill. Leading the team in aces are Jessie Ruple and Jennifer Dunn, Lauren Belyeu leads the team in assists and serving percentage. Kills have been scored by Cheri Smith, Dunn, Ruple, Olympia Haney and Katie Davenport. Defensively, Mallie Haumann, Haney and Dunn lead the team in digs and Davenport, Haney and Talyah Mueller lead in blocking. McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs took on Our Lady of Mercy and Westminster last Thursday. They defeated the Lady Bobcats 25-8 and 25-11 but lost to Westminster 20-25, 25-16, 20-25. McIntosh took on Lovejoy and Creekside last night and will face Lassiter and St. Pius at St. Pius tomorrow. They will also play in the Collins Hill Classic this weekend. login to post comments |
