The south side of Atlanta now has a state of the art, indoor, year-round swim and dive facility appropriately named the Steve Lundquist Aquatic Center and conveniently located off Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro, Ga.

Lundquist, a Jonesboro native, is a former Olympic champion swimmer who had a positive impact and helped create a high level of local and national interest in the sport.
The Tara Tarpons Swimming Team and their long-course program is professionally directed under the guidance of former swimmer and qualified coach, Andy Griffin, and is supported by assistant coaches Dennis Byrd and Judy Burdette. Tara Tarpon Diving Team leadership is directed by the wisdom of Gib Downton and his 25 years of coaching experience. This outstanding combination of swim and dive team leadership is by far the best and certainly the most qualified coaching staff available for our children (and adults) on the south side of Atlanta. They collectively promote a “positive team” environment, offer superior coaching techniques, and create an atmosphere that encourages the development of both body and spirit in our young athletes.

Swim team practice and tryouts for interested new members are conducted Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Dive team practice and tryouts are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m.
