Woman survives shot to the face

A man who shot a woman at a Fayetteville furniture store early Friday morning remained in custody Tuesday at the Fayette County Jail, police said.

Jarrod Michael Gooden is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of stolen property and damage to government property, police said.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. when Fayetteville Police Officer Kevin Ingram pulled into the parking lot of Crumpton’s Furniture on Ga. Highway 85 N. to check on two persons walking in the area, police said. The woman was shot in the face and Gooden then fired several shots at Ingram, breaking the glass of his patrol car window while he ducked for cover, police said.

Gooden fled on foot and Ingram gave chase but was unable to locate him. Gooden apparently fled in a car to Creekwood Trail where he abandoned it in a wooded area, police said.

Gooden was arrested by Georgia State University police later Friday after he accosted a student there, police said. He was then taken to Grady Hospital in Atlanta for treatment of a possible overdose before he was taken to the Fayette County Jail, police said.

Gooden allegedly kidnapped the woman from her Norcross area home in Gwinnett County before the incident, police said. He may have been in Fayette County visiting his girlfriend who lives in the area, police said.

The victim survived the shooting and was speaking with police hours after the incident, police said.
