Have you ever wondered what it really takes to make it as an actor in the entertainment industry?  Directors, producers, and agents look for the educated, the talented and the trained. They look for the actor who will successfully carry out the audition process professionally and with confidence. Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts is taking acting to the next level of professionalism with new drama director Mike Beecham. They are moving beyond community theater by providing the education and training these directors, producers, and agents are looking for, while building confidence in each student actor. It is passion, performance, and professionalism at its finest.

As a professional actor, director and drama coach, Beecham has directed and written numerous professional productions in venues such as Theatre in the Square, Georgia State University and the 14th Street Playhouse. His experience includes professional theater, theme park productions, corporate events and television commercials. Additionally, he has conducted many acting workshops, drama classes for various theaters and performing arts groups, private acting lessons and audition coaching for various ages. His classes will take students beyond the level of school and local theater education by preparing them for a professional career.

The drama program at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts is offering Acting 101 classes for ages 9-11 and ages 12 and up. These classes include instruction on how to follow stage direction, character study, basic make-up tips for stage and film, theatrical terms, scene study, audition do’s and don’ts, how to read and interpret a script, jobs in professional theater, different acting techniques, differences in acting for stage and film, career choices for acting professionally and how to find a legitimate agent and manager.

Auditions for Georgia Dance Theatre Workshop Players, a pre-professional drama group, are being held Saturday, September 9 at 2 p.m. for ages 11 and up. This pre-professional drama group will prepare students to audition for professional productions, understand the atmosphere of professional acting and know how to thrive in the entertainment industry. These students will get intensive instruction with Beecham and other guest artists with several performance opportunities.

Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts is located at 453 Ga. Highway 74 S in Peachtree City, Ga. For questions regarding classes and audition information, check the Web site at www.gadance.com or call 770-631-3128.
