SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. (August 23, 2006) — An error in the Georgia 2006-2007 Hunting Seasons and Regulations popular guidebook may incorrectly lead hunters to believe that they can hunt feral hogs at night on Wildlife Management Areas (WMA), according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).

Page 17 of the 2006-2007 popular guide includes a paragraph about feral hogs, the last sentence of which states, “No night hunting with a light of more than 6 volts.”

Night hunting for opossums, raccoons, foxes and bobcats is allowed with 6-volt lights on WMAs.

However, hunting feral hogs at night is NOT allowed on any WMA.

As always, hunters are encouraged to check specific hunting seasons and regulations for each WMA and while many of these areas offer an opportunity to hunt feral hogs with specific firearms restrictions throughout the small game season (from August 15, 2006 through the last day of February 2007), some don’t offer this opportunity until after October 15, 2006.

Regardless of information provided to hunters by word of mouth and/or outdoor magazines, the best source of accurate information is the 2006-2007 Georgia Hunting Seasons and Regulations popular guide.

This publication is available in more than 900 outlets, including outdoor and sporting goods stores and WRD offices. It also is available on the WRD website: www.gohuntgeorgia.com.

Please don’t let incorrect or vague information mislead you or interfere with your enjoyment of the great outdoors. If you have any question, please call the Hunter Services Office at 770-761-3044.
