It was a rainy night in Georgia last Friday and several of the local teams must have felt like it was raining all over the world.

While Sandy Creek, Whitewater and Landmark all picked up wins, Starrs Mill got upset by Mundys Mill and Fayette County and McIntosh were shutout by East Coweta and Creekside respectively.

Sandy Creek defeated Woodward Academy 26-0 after getting rushing touchdowns from Brent Brewer, Khiry Battle, Cody Green and Sebastian Heflin. Coach Chip Walker credited members of the offensive line for stepping up and having a good game and also gave praise to kicker Michael Jones, who punted and kicked well in the sloppy conditions.

We put all three facets of the game together tonight, Walker said.

The Patriots (6-1) will host Haralson County (4-3) on Friday.

Whitewater trailed Athens Academy 10-7 at the half but came back with a vengeance, scoring 21 unanswered points to seal the win, 28-10 and stay undefeated. Tavoris Dixon rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns, while Trey Scales added one and Jonah Jaurigue added a two point conversion. Jonathan Bringuel, Dustin Davis, Tim Jones and Ryan McDaniel all played well on defense.

Whitewater (7-0) hosts Alpharetta (3-4) on Friday.

Landmark Christian handed Our Lady of Mercy a region loss with a 33-6 win in Fairburn last week. Due to the rain, the War Eagles launched a ground attack that produced 305 yards of rushing. Miles King had 145 yards rushing and three touchdowns and Zech Glaize had 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Tim Creamer led the defense with six tackles, while Tyler Chapman and Nathan Hunter each had four tackles.

Landmark (5-3) has a bye week this week, while Our Lady of Mercy (0-8) hosts Eagles Landing Christian Academy.

Starrs Mill took on Mundys Mill at Twelve Oaks Stadium last Friday and found themselves coming up short, 21-19. Both teams made numerous turnovers in the terrible conditions with Starrs Mill and Mundys Mill each fumbling the ball several times.

The Panthers could not stop Errol Wynn from gaining over 150 yards of offense and catching the winning touchdown pass.

Starrs Mill (6-2) has a bye week this week, which gives them a week to prepare for Newnan.

Fayette County traveled to Sharpsburg to face the East Coweta Indians and an early mistake proved costly. The Tigers fumbled in their own half in the first quarter and East Coweta quickly capitalized and never looked back. The Indians would score again in the second and third quarter and would hold on to a 20-0 lead for the win.

The Tigers tried to mount an offense and sustain a drive but would fumble again and would stall out around 25 yards from the East Coweta endzone in the second half.

Fayette County (2-6) hosts Mundys Mill (4-3) on Friday.

McIntoshs defense played another solid game, getting a good performance from the unit as a whole and an outstanding game from Anthony Caldwell who had 22 tackles on the night. Though the offense was inconsistent and made too many turnovers, they were in position to score on a few occasions.

McIntosh (2-5) plays at Woodward Academy (3-4) on Friday.
