• Georgia Tech wide receiver and Sandy Creek graduate Calvin Johnson is one of 35 players named to the preseason watch list for 2006 Walter Camp Player of the Year award, announced Friday by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. The Walter Camp Player of the Year award is nation’s fourth-oldest individual college football accolade.

The watch list will be narrowed to ten semi-finalists in early November. The 2006 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 119 Division I-A head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on the ESPN/Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December.

• Michael Sharp of Fayetteville and Terry Ernst of Peachtree City are two of 3,800 golfers expected to participate in the 2006 PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Aug. 28 – Sept. 1.

• The TaylorMade-adidas golf Georgia PGA Assistant Professional Championship was held at The Standard Club in Duluth recently. Todd Ormsby of the Flat Creek Club shot a 150 over 36 holes and placed 11th.
