Peachtree City residents and visitors now have a new place to log onto the Internet: the city's tennis center and visitor's center.

The city is offering free Wi-Fi Internet access at both locations thanks to a city project designed to create wireless access points for city employees to use in their daily tasks. To take advantage of the program with their wireless computer or personal digital assistant, residents must pop in to the check-in desk at the tennis center or in the visitor's center for details on how to log in.

The city has offered wireless internet for three years at the city's library, and there are plans to create more access points at the Highway 74 south baseball and soccer complex and at the Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center. Both of the latter projects should be operational later this fall.

The free Internet access is limited in bandwidth and there are restrictions on content as well, officials said.

“We are excited to have expanded the wireless capabilities to the Tennis Center,” said Tennis Center manager Dave Gary. “This service provides a definite benefit to our members, guests, restaurant patrons, and those who come to the Visitor’s Center nearby.” Gary indicated that the service should also enhance the center’s attraction for regional and national tournaments, saying, “having more access to the wealth of information and entertainment on the Web will make Peachtree City a more attractive destination for today’s on-the-go families.”
