Fayette residents can enjoy savings at their favorite local restaurants and businesses while directly benefiting the county’s students, teachers and schools.

The Fayette County Education Foundation is selling Enjoy the City coupon books again this year to help raise money to fund teacher minigrants and scholarships for employees pursing degrees in education. The book features many buy one, get one offers from popular Fayette restaurants as well as discounts from local retailers.

Enjoy the City coupon books will be sold for $12 with part of the proceeds benefiting the foundation. Books can be purchased at the Fayette County Board of Education located at 210 Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville. Last year, the foundation raised over $9,000 in coupon book sales, which helped the organization offer its first scholarship opportunities to paraprofessionals pursuing education degrees.

The Fayette County Education Foundation is a nonprofit 501 C-3 Georgia Corporation that raises funds for minigrants for Fayette’s public school teachers and for scholarships for employees who want to become teachers. This past spring, the foundation awarded over $29,000 to teachers at the county's elementary, middle and high schools to assist them in the development of unique learning programs to enhance the curriculum already in place. This was the largest award made by the foundation in its four-year history. In addition, the foundation also awarded $1,500 in scholarships to three paraprofessionals who are pursuing degrees in education for a teaching career.

The goal of the foundation is to be able to award 100 percent of all viable minigrant requests as well as expand scholarship opportunities. Since the foundation has very few overhead costs, approximately 90 percent of every dollar raised goes directly go toward funding teacher minigrants and employee scholarships, which are awarded each spring.

The coupon books are an easy and affordable way for residents to help support the foundation and Fayette County Schools while at the same time enjoying savings at their favorite restaurants and businesses.

Since Spring 2002, the foundation has funded over 100 teacher minigrant requests totaling nearly $80,000. These minigrants have helped creative teachers implement innovative classroom projects and programs that otherwise would not have received funding. The foundation is a cooperative effort of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and the school system.
