Are you ready for some new boundaries?

While Hank Williams Jr. won’t be crooning at Monday night’s meeting of the Fayette County Board of Education, the gathering is sure to attract as much local attention as Monday Night Football usually does.

The board will unveil new boundary proposals for elementary schools at the 7 p.m. at the board’s headquarters at 210 Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville. The board will address redistricting for three overcrowded schools: Robert. J. Burch, northeast of Tyrone; Peeples, south of Peachtree City; and Peachtree City Elementary, the oldest elementary school near the middle of the city.

Last week, school officials said nearly 500 students would be moved for the 2006 school year to alleviate the overcrowding issue, so Monday night’s meeting is sure to be packed to the rafters.

Maps of the new elementary boundaries will be available for public viewing at the meeting. After the presentation, the maps will be available for review at the elementary schools as well as the Fayette County Board of Education.

The proposal will sit on the table for 30 days to give the public time to examine the maps and offer input. The board plans to vote on the elementary boundaries at the regular December meeting.

The board originally was also going to look at boundary lines for middle and high school students, but decided to wait until next year until further information is available for proposed housing developments.
