• Georgia’s top ranked AAU Intermediate Girls 4x800 relay team, which consists of Michelle Stegall (Starrs Mill), Jada Berry (Fayette County), Kiana Courtney(Sandy Creek), and Kia Andrews (Whitewater), brought medals back from the 2006 AAU Junior Olympics, held in Norfolk, VA.

The quartet won their heat and finished ranked eighth in the nation.

Stegall, who is the top ranked 200 meter and third ranked 400 meter runner in the state, brought home another medal in the 400 and finished ranked seventh nationally.

Pole vaulter, Mauri Peoples (Carrollton), ranked first in the state, also qualified for the national meet, but was unable to attend.
The Quad City Striders Track Club is an all girls track team in its second season of existence. Look for them to make a strong statement at the 2007 national meet, which will be held in Knoxville, TN.

• Fayetteville’s Jessica Porch placed seventh in the Callawy Gardens Junior Classic on the Georgia PGA Junior Tour with a 177 in two rounds. Peachtree City’s Josh Moore tied for 55th with a 163 on the boys side.

The Callaway Gardens Junior Classic is the 12th of 15 statewide 36-hole tournaments through October.

The top players from three boys divisions and two girls divisions will come together for the Junior Tour Championship in December at Jekyll Island Golf Club.

• Three Fayette residents were competitors at the National Physique Committee (NPC) Teen, Collegiate and Masters Contests, held recently in Pittsburgh, Penn.

Victoria Larvie, 2005 teen fitness champion won again to be the NPC teen fitness champion for 2006. Adam Kase, 2005 bantamweight bodybuilding champion won the first runners up spot for 2006.
Ultimate Fitness trainer Lucy Thrasher placed seventh in women’s figure with over one hundred competitors.

The National Physique Committee is the official US sanctioning body for amateur bodybuilding. It is the amateur arm of the International Federation of Bodybuilding.

David Thrasher, who has just been appointed the representative for the United States Sports Academy in Georgia, trains all three contestants.
