There is a new online community for local moms throughout the state of Georgia looking to make new connections with other area mothers. MomsofGa.com is a Web site created by Beth Stafford, a mom from Lawrenceville, Ga., as a way to get herself and her son out of the house and meeting new friends.
Stafford and her husband Rob moved to Georgia in 2003 and soon fell in love with the area. They quickly began to make friends and settle into the community. In 2005 they had their first child and Stafford began her life as a stay-at-home mom.
It was then that she realized the importance of having other mothers around you as a means of support and fellowship. Since she had no network of moms to rely on, she went about finding one. After joining several “Mommy Boards” she came to the conclusion that none of the available ones offered her exactly what she was looking for; a place where local moms of all ages, races and parenting philosophies could discuss parental concerns and strategies without limitations or censorship. “I wanted a place where everyone could feel comfortable being themselves rather than what other moms expected them to be. There seems to be a lot of standards that we as mothers hold other moms to, sometimes to extremes. I have encountered more than one site that made me feel like less of a mom due to parenting choices I had made that may not have not been the popular trend and I wanted to avoid that at all costs,” stated Stafford. With support from her husband, she set about creating that environment.
MomsofGa.com is that environment and more. Not only does it offer message boards where women are free to discuss and debate relevant issues but it also offers members a way to connect and meet up with each other both on and off line to form new friendships. “Being a single working mom, it is hard to find time to meet people and to make friends. MomsofGa.com allows me to do both. The site is great because it allows for moms in the similar situations to meet and talk about what is going on in their lives. It can quickly become like a second family. There are so many women on the site of such a variety of backgrounds that it is always a learning experience,” stated Rebecca Rabun of Cumming. “As for my daughter, this site is the best thing that has happened. Through the site we both have met some incredible people. For once in her young life she has children her age to play with.”
MomsofGa.com is a free Web site for Mothers throughout the state of Georgia.
