Air Force Staff Sgt. Jennifer N. Yack was nominated for consideration in the selection process of being one of the Air Force's 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year for 2005.
Nominees from major commands, direct reporting units and air staff agencies compete to be one of the final 12 final selectees of the Air Force's top enlisted members award. The final 12 airmen are selected by an Air Force selection board based on superior leadership, job performance, community involvement, and personal achievements.
The nominees are authorized to wear the Outstanding Airman of the Year ribbon. The 12 winners wear the bronze star on the ribbon and the Outstanding Airman Badge for one year from the formal presentation.
Yack, a security forces evaluator, is assigned to the 341st Security Forces Group, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Mont. She has served in the military for five years.
She is the daughter of Terri and Timothy Niesen of Fayetteville, Ga. The sergeant graduated in 1999 from Long County High School, Ludowici, Ga., and received an associate degree in 2006 from the Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell Air Force Base, Gunter Annex, Montgomery, Ala.

Army Pvt. Shawn E. Shields has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Shields is a 1999 graduate of Fayette County High School, Fayetteville, Ga.

Army Pvt. Sharon E. Ashbaugh has graduated from the Small Arms/Artillery Repairer Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md.
The course is designed to train soldiers to perform direct and general support maintenance and repairs on small arms and other related infantry weapons, such as shoulder-fired weapons, handguns, machine guns, mortars, and towed artillery.
Ashbaugh is the daughter of Douglas L. and Cassandra Fondahn of Senoia, Ga. and a 2005 graduate of East Coweta High School, Sharpsburg, Ga.
