Landmark Christian and McIntosh girls capture state title

The McIntosh High School girls cross country team won their second state title in cross country on Saturday. Top runner Emily Borsare collapsed before the finish but the Lady Chiefs had a full saff of runners to back her up and capture the title. McIntosh last won the AAAA state championship in 1998. Their top five runners were:

McIntosh girls, 1st
• Erica Hughey, 14, 20:38
• Rebecca Stokes, 24, 20:56
• Kaelyn Horton, 30, 21:20
• Kristy Espiau, 32, 21:22
• Kaia Hampton, 35, 21:25

The girls team from Landmark Christian School won their third consecutive Class A state championship on Saturday. Their top five runners were:

Landmark girls, 1st
• Caroline Jones, 4, 20:36
• Kaity Bulger, 6, 20:43
• Elizabeth Gresham, 7, 20:53
• Jesse Thames, 12, 21:19
• Lauren McGuire, 16, 21:43

Our Lady of Mercy’s girls ran in a tight pack but fell just short of the state crown. Their top five runners were:

• Sarah Hohenberger, 8, 20:59
• Marina Fleming, 21, 22:00
• Savini Santha, 22, 22:10
• Samantha Jumper, 23, 22:15
• Lauren Hohenberger, 27, 22:34

All season long, the boys squads from Landmark Christian and Our Lady of Mercy battled each other and compared times, hoping that when the final meet came, they would each be ready to defeat the other and win the title. Neither team won the crown this year as Landmark placed second and Our Lady of Mercy placed third. Mercy’s Matt Lethbridge was the Class A individual state champ though, with a time of 16:37. The top five runners for each team were:

In the Class AAAAA meets, Starr’s Mill’s girls finished the highest of the four local teams competing, while Austin Enriquez, a member of the Starr’s Mill boys team, was the only county runner in Class AAAAA to crack the top 10 in the state. The top five runners for each of the Fayette County schools running in the Class AAAAA races were:
